California Department of Pesticide Regulation launched an outreach project to bring sanitizer awareness to food facilities. Though food facilities are required to use sanitizers, many employees of these facilities are not aware that sanitizers are pesticides. Twenty-three percent of non-agricultural occupational pesticide-related illnesses and injuries occurred in service establishments (2005-2015, PISP data). Service establishments include restaurants and other food facilities. Our presentation will provide background information and discuss the outreach project and results, from an outreach survey conducted at retail food facilities.
